Our future reality should affect our current life (v1-3)

A lot of times it is the instant gratification of the earthly things around us that distract us from having an eternal focus.  It distracts us from living our lives through the power of the gospel.

Our future reality is that the earthly body is temporary.  Our hope isn't in this body here on earth.  Our hope is in eternal things.

  • 2 Cor 4:16-18
  • James 4:14

Hardship does not discredit the gospel nor the proclaimer of it.

One day I will be with God and my struggles and difficulties for following Jesus on earth will have been worth it.

Things that will discredit the gospel:

  1. Living according to our sinful flesh.
    1. Works of the flesh are rooted in the brokenness of our sinful nature and have a tendency to be earthly focused.
    2. Galations 5:19-21
  2. Living without an understandingof the truth.

The gospel is the good news that gives us hope.

God's Spirit is our guarantee as we wait for the new body (v4-5)

God puts his Spirit in you.

  • 2 Cor 1:21-22
  • Ephesians 1:13-14
  • 1 Cor 6:18-20

God is preparing us for eternal things by putting His Spirit in us!!!!!

We are of good courage (confidence) and want to please Him (v6-9)

    • Filled with the Spirit
    • Walk by faith

Without faith it is impossible to see accurately.
Warning!  Warning!  Warning!  Judgement Awaits (v10)

"Our dees are not the basis of our salvation, they are the evidence of our salvation.  They are not foundation, they are demonstration." - John Piper

Three Ways to live our lives pleasing to the Lord:

  1. Live Gospel-Centered Lives
    1. Extend Grace to people
    2. Forgive people who have offended you
    3. Be Generous
    4. Share the truth in love
  2. Live with good courage, suffer well, trusting God
    1. It is an honor to be considered worthy to suffer for Jesus' sake
  3. Live for God's glory, not our own
    1. 1 Cor 10:31
